Why add a slide link in PowerPoint
There are several reasons why adding an internal slide link in PowerPoint is convenient.
Using an internal link makes it easy to:
- Jump to a particular slide during the presentation
- Open a custom slideshow when presenting to a different audience
- Navigate the slideshow when exporting to a PDF
- Create a table of contents for moving to various slides
Luckily, it’s super simple to add a slide link in PowerPoint!
Link to a slide in PowerPoint
As mentioned, you can link to another slide in your presentation. For this reason, it’s advantageous to use slide titles in PowerPoint as you’ll see walking through the steps below.
- Select the item on the slide where you want to add the internal link. You can use text, a shape, an image, or an object.
- Go to the Insert tab and choose Link in the Links section of the ribbon. Alternatively, right-click the item and choose Link.
- In the pop-up window, pick Place in This Document on the left.
- To the right, select a slide like First, Last, Next, Previous, or expand Slide Titles and choose the slide. You’ll see a preview of your selection on the far right allowing you to confirm you have the correct slide.
- If you are linking text on a slide, you have the option to change that text in the Insert Hyperlink box. Simply edit the Text to display field.
- Another option you have is to show a screen tip for the link. This displays text when you hover your cursor over the linked item during the presentation. To add this, select ScreenTip, enter the text, and click OK.
- When you finish, select OK to apply the link. During your presentation, simply click the link to jump to the slide you selected.
Link to a custom show in PowerPoint
If it’s a custom show you want to add a link to, this is just as easy as linking to a slide in PowerPoint. The difference is that you can enable a setting to return to the main slide show after displaying the custom one.
- Follow Steps 1 through 3 above to select the item, open the Insert Hyperlink box, and pick Place in This Document.
- To the right, expand Custom Shows and choose the show name. Like choosing a slide, you’ll see a preview to the right.
- If you want to resume the main slideshow after showing the custom show, check the box for Show and return below the preview.
- Optionally, adjust the text to display and add a screen tip.
- Click OK to apply the link.
Make a clickable table of contents with Plus AI
As mentioned earlier, one of the best ways to use PowerPoint’s internal link feature is to create a table of contents (TOC) slide. This allows you or your viewers to jump to various parts of the slideshow. For instance, you may have an onboarding presentation and want to revisit or move right to the training schedule slide.
If you use Plus AI for PowerPoint, you’ll automatically receive a title for each slide along with an agenda slide that lists all titles for the TOC. This saves you time from adding and listing the slide titles yourself; you can just link the titles in the agenda.
Along with providing you with slide titles and an agenda slide, Plus AI can help you create presentations from start to finish as well as edit them. You can upload a file or enter a prompt and pick an eye-catching template for new slideshows. And for existing presentations, you can insert a new slide or rewrite an existing one.
Plus AI is a true time-saver when it comes to PowerPoint, but it also works with Google Slides and Docs for even more flexibility and convenience. Head to the Plus website for full details.
