How to add a font in Google Slides

Got the perfect font for your design and topic? We’ll show you how to add a font in Google Slides.

When building a presentation, you want to use a font that compliments the design along with your topic. After all, you wouldn’t use a cursive script in a slideshow for your kindergarten class or a wacky font for a professional business presentation.

Google Slides offers a nice selection of fonts, but that collection is still limited, and you can’t import or upload your own. We’ll show you how to add a font in Google Slides that you won’t find in the menu so that you can use the perfect style for your presentation.

Browse for and add a font in Google Slides

If you’ve tried every style in the Font menu and still can’t find one that works, follow the steps below to add a different font.

  1. Open the Font drop-down menu in the toolbar and choose More fonts.
  1. In the Fonts pop-up window, you can use Scripts to pick a language, Show for certain font types, or Sort to reorder the list. You can also use the Search box to find a font by keyword.
  1. When you see a font you want, select it. This then adds it to the My fonts list on the right.
  1. To finish, click OK at the bottom.

You’ll then see the font you added in the Font menu.

Note: When you add a new font in Google Slides, that style is available in Google Docs and Sheets too.

Search on the Google Fonts site

While the More Fonts option in Google Slides is helpful, it can be difficult to see the font style variations like bold or italic. Additionally, you may want to browse fonts based on things like business, futuristic, or calligraphy.

You can visit the Google Fonts website to see a library of styles, use filters to find what you need, and then, locate the font in Google Slides. Here’s how.

  1. Head to Google Fonts and select Filters on the top left.
  1. When the side panel opens, use one or more filters and preview the results on the right. You can also enter your own text for the previews, adjust the font sizes, and narrow down the options by the number of styles available.
  1. Select the font you like to see the variations and additional previews.
  1. Return to Google Slides and open More fonts in the Fonts menu.
  2. Type the name of the font from the Google Fonts website in the Search box.
  3. Pick the font in the results to add it to your list. Then, click OK and select the font in the Font menu as described above.
