How we tested the AI pitch deck makers in our lineup

To test each of the AI pitch deck apps, we asked them to, well, build us a pitch deck. We came up with a fictional company that specializes in drone deliveries of sensitive and luxury items, Skylight Deliveries. We even drafted a sample business plan and prompts of several different lengths to suit each pitch deck maker’s context window. Then, we prompted each AI app, and assessed its outputs for:

  • Presentation structure: Pitch decks need to adhere to a specific structure, typically problem - solution - market - team - financials
  • Slide content quality: Slides should be informative without causing cognitive overload
  • Layout effectiveness: Slide layouts need to convey information clearly
  • Graphics quality: Images used in the slides should be engaging and aligned with the content
  • Theme and format: The color theme, fonts, sizes, and margins work in concert to make the slide deck appear sleek and professional

Based on these tests, here is our lineup of the 5 best AI pitch deck creation apps.

1. PlusAI — best overall pitch deck generator

Key features summary

  • Auto-generates pitch decks in PowerPoint and Google Slides
  • Converts most popular file formats to presentations in minutes
  • Creates presentation from a single prompt
  • Auto-generated slides come with informative content, relevant graphics, and professional formatting
  • Offers a user-friendly interface
  • Costs $10-$30 per month, depending on the plan

PlusAI is the best overall pitch deck generator. It integrates seamlessly into Microsoft PowerPoint and Google Slides, so you don’t need to learn too many new features, and the slides are generated in popular, easily shareable formats. Crucially, Plus AI has a lengthy prompt window, which lets you supply lots of detail and make the deck as informative as possible.

On the design side, you’ll find that Plus AI generates sleek, professional, and easily graspable slides that are ready for presentation with minimal editing. If you need to adjust the slides’ tone, style, or layouts, there’s an AI feature that lets you make revisions automatically.

How to build a pitch deck with PlusAI

There are three ways you can prompt PlusAI to auto-generate a pitch deck — you can enter a prompt, upload a file, or prompt each slide individually

Prompt to pitch deck

The “Prompt to presentation” feature is the best way to use an AI presentation generator to create a pitch deck. That’s because you retain full control over the input and give PlusAI enough information to flesh out the slide content.

This feature requires you to enter a detailed description of the presentation. Ideally, you’d outline your business model, the products you offer, your competitive advantage, the company’s current valuation, the amount of money you’re hoping to raise, etc. Fortunately, Plus AI accepts prompts as long as 100,000 characters (or ~20,000 words), so you can — and should — supply as much information as possible. You can even copy-paste relevant passages from your business plan or other documents.

We tried the prompt-to-presentation function by sending Plus AI a prompt with a brief description of the Skylight Deliveries business and the company’s business plan:

PlusAI used this input to create a presentation outline we could review and tweak:

After reviewing the outline, we asked Plus AI to generate the slides. The output presentation impressed us with a flawless pitch deck structure, clearly presented content, and graphics that were well aligned with the subject matter:

Convert a file to a pitch deck

If you want to base the pitch deck on documents pertaining to your business, you can use the “Upload a file” function. This feature lets you upload files in various popular formats to PlusAI. Instead of supplying the entire document, you can also copy-paste selected bits of text from the documents into PlusAI’s prompt window. Armed with all the information you’ve supplied, the AI slidemaker will get to work and produce a complete pitch deck.

For example, we pasted in a business plan for our fictional company, Skylight Deliveries, and asked Plus AI to create a pitch deck based on the document:

This was the output presentation:

Prompt each slide individually

Another way to craft a pitch deck with PlusAI is to prompt the app slide-by-slide. This option gives you full control over the structure of the presentation and minimizes the need for revisions — as long as you have a firm idea of what the deck should look like. With this feature, you copy-paste relevant bits of text from your source documents to prompt each slide individually:

Plus AI pros

  • Creates professional-looking pitch decks that typically need little editing
  • Produces slide content that’s info-rich but not overwhelming
  • Offers different prompting methods to suit different skill levels and preferences
  • Automatically selects the most suitable layouts based on the slide content
  • Gives access to an extensive library of templates with carefully curated color themes and visually appealing formatting
  • Integrates into your Google Slides or PowerPoint workflows, so you’re not forced to learn how to use a new presentation app

Plus AI cons

  • Requires a working knowledge of Google Slides or Microsoft PowerPoint

Plus AI pricing

PlusAI offers three pricing tiers. The Basic plan costs just $10 per month, and includes unlimited AI-generated pitch decks. The Pro plan ($20/month) expands the prompt window limit to 100,000 characters (approximately 20,000 words) and lets you upload most popular file formats. Finally, the $30/month Team plan allows you to use custom branding, colors, and fonts in the presentations.

2. Decktopus AI — best for balanced control and detailed inputs

Key features summary

  • Offers AI and manual slide creation features
  • AI slide maker produces pitch decks based on prompts and documents you upload
  • Auto-generates speaker notes for each slide
  • Has two pricing tiers — $24.99/month and $49.99/month

Decktopus AI is a quality presentation maker that combines AI and manual slide creation functions in its workflow. With Decktopus, you can move past any writer’s block by prompting the AI first, then edit the auto-generated presentation until it meets the bar. Alternatively, you can build a slide deck from scratch or get started with one of Decktopus’s templates.

What’s great about Decktopus AI is that it allows you to upload documents that are relevant to your pitch deck. With this function, you can equip the AI slidemaker with all the data it needs to build a gap-free, informative deck.

How to build a pitch deck with Decktopus AI

To build a pitch deck with Decktopus AI, you start by selecting the “Create with AI” button from the dashboard, then entering a prompt that describes your presentation. We entered the same prompt we used with Plus AI:

Next, you have to choose a presentation category. Startup Pitch seemed most appropriate, so that’s what we went with:

After choosing the presentation type, you can upload any pertinent files. We uploaded the Skylight Deliveries business plan:

Upon reviewing the files, Decktopus will produce an outline you can edit:

Finally, all you need to do is choose one of five templates for the deck:

Here’s the output pitch deck we got after a few minutes of waiting:

The slides’ had a minimalistic design with only few layout types throughout the deck. Despite the simplicity, the presentation conveyed key bits of info from the business plan we had uploaded and structured the information in a clear, coherent manner. The AI-generated graphics, albeit a bit repetitive, were largely connected to the subject matter.

What stood out to us was that Decktopus produced a set of speaker notes for every slide in the deck. This is a handy feature that saves you time as you prepare to present the deck to investors.

Decktopus AI pros

  • Ability to upload files and enter sizable prompts helps get a more accurate output
  • AI assistant produces quality speaker notes automatically with each slide deck
  • Minimalistic slide layout conveys information well without cognitive overload

Decktopus AI cons

  • No free plan, and no way to try the service for free
  • Slide design limited to just five templates
  • Graphics are often repetitive

Decktopus AI Pricing

Unfortunately, Decktopus offers no free trial, and no free plan you could use to take the deck maker for a test drive. There are only two plans, both of which are paid. The Pro plan costs $24.99 per month, and includes 750 monthly AI credits (for reference, our test presentation used up 10 credits). You can export the presentations to PDF and PPT formats, get access to analytics tools, and get links for sharing the decks with teammates. Meanwhile, the $49.99/month Business plan includes 1,000 AI presentation credits and adds branding and collaboration features to the package.

3. Pitch — best for prioritizing visuals and easy design

Key features summary

  • Allows prompt-based AI pitch deck generation
  • Enables you to quickly configure slide color themes and fonts after the deck is generated
  • Premium versions of the product come with engagement analytics, branding, and collaboration tools
  • Price ranges from $0 to $80 per month

Pitch is a business-oriented slide creation program that’s designed to help you build pitch decks, sales proposals, product overviews, and other types of presentations within this niche. Pitch comes with a range of manual slide-making tools and a way to start building your pitch deck with AI. The app also makes it easy to imbue your presentations with corporate branding and your company’s unique identity.

Apart from the slide creation tools, Pitch lets you embed the pitch decks into your CMS, share the presentation with colleagues, and track audience engagement.

How to build a pitch deck with Pitch

Pitch has a “Start with AI” feature that enables you to create a presentation based on a prompt. The prompt window is limited to just 400 characters, which translates to about 50 words. With this limitation in mind, you’ll need to be as clear and succinct as possible to get an acceptable output. We asked Pitch to create a pitch deck for our drone delivery service, using a truncated version of the same prompt we gave Decktopus and PlusAI:

This was the output we got in response:

Considering that generative AI works best when given lots of context, the pitch deck we got based on our 400-word prompt was quite impressive. The slides had a sleek, elegant theme, and the layouts did a great job of conveying information without cognitive overload. Conveniently, we could change the color theme with the click of a button:

That said, the content itself was a bit light on information. This wasn’t much of a shock given the extremely limited context window and the lack of an option to upload files. Likewise, the graphics relevance was a hit and miss:

Despite these drawbacks, we decided to add Pitch to our lineup of the best AI pitch deck generators. It does create genuinely appealing slides, and if you don’t mind spending time refining the content and images, you’ll find this a suitable beginner tool for auto-generating pitch decks.

Pitch pros

  • Visually pleasing slides with well-curated color themes and elegant layouts
  • Array of manual slide editing and creation tools
  • Ability to add custom branding to presentations
  • Analytics tools for assessing audience engagement

Pitch cons

  • AI feature is limited in functionality since it only accepts short prompts

Pitch pricing

You get three pricing plans to choose from with Pitch. The Free plan allows you to make an unlimited number of pitch decks with AI, but offers no analytics tool or unbranded exports to more popular file formats, like PPT. These features come with the $20/month Pro plan, which also includes perks like viewing the presentation version history, video uploads, and the ability to embed the deck in a CMS. Finally, the $80/month Business plan also includes priority support and access to a library of graphic assets.

4. Storydoc — best for well-structured pitch decks

Key features summary

  • AI presentation maker
  • Presentations tailored to the pitch deck structure
  • Graphic asset catalog
  • Slide content suggestions
  • Large context window for AI prompts
  • Pricing ranges from $30 to $45 per month

Storydoc is an AI-powered slide maker that auto-generates a wide array of presentation types, including pitch decks. What’s great about this pitch deck creator is that it’s trained to tailor the slide deck structure based on the type of presentation you’re making. So, if you’re building a pitch deck, Storydoc will weave all the essential elements of a successful investor pitch into the slides it makes.

Unfortunately, Storydoc does not have the capacity to process entire files. However, unlike Pitch, Storydoc has a massive context window that allows you to enter a sizable, descriptive prompt, which in turn gets you a more information-rich presentation.

How to build a pitch deck with Storydoc

To build a pitch deck with Storydoc, you’ll have to choose the “Pitch Deck” function. Then, Strydoc asks you to elaborate and select the type of pitch deck you’re working on. Options include Invest Pitch Deck, Startup Pitch Deck, Product Pitch Deck, Service Pitch Deck, and others. Once you’ve narrowed down the presentation type, you have to enter your prompt. If you want the output presentation to come with info-packed slides, make sure your prompt is as detailed as possible; this shouldn’t be a problem, since there is no obvious character limit in Storydoc’s prompt window.

We prompted Storydoc with the same presentation description we supplied to the other AI pitch deck makers on our list:

In response, Storydoc produced this presentation for us:

The presentation had a suitable structure for a pitch deck. It started with the problem statement and how our fictional company plans to address it, before getting into a snapshot of the market, our competitive advantage, financing needs, and more. Several slides contained text placeholders; however, instead of the usual Lorem Ipsum, Storydoc filled these with handy, relevant content suggestions:

That said, the graphics rarely aligned with the slide content. This seems to be an issue with most AI-powered slide makers, so we’d say just take it in stride and replace the images with your own as you see fit.

Storydoc pros

  • Well-structured presentations that align with the pitch deck format
  • Substantial context window that allows for detailed prompts
  • Text placeholders come with useful content suggestions

Storydoc cons

  • Graphics are seldom relevant to the subject matter
  • No free plan

Storydoc pricing

Storydoc has just two pricing plans, which don’t include a free option. The Starter package costs $30 per month per user, and includes the AI slide assistant, analytics features, a library of graphic assets, and has a limit of 20 slides per presentation. The $45/month Pro plan comes with the same offerings as the Starter package, but allows for unlimited slides and allows you to add corporate branding and export the presentations.

5. Slidebean — best for creating basic pitch decks from scratch

Key features summary

  • Allows you to auto-generate a pitch deck based on a short description or company website URL
  • Gives access to a library of pitch deck templates
  • Comes with premium features, like tracking investors, business modeling, and organizing company finances
  • Top-tier plan includes professional pitch deck writing services
  • Pricing ranges from free to $99/month (you need a paid version to share or export presentations)

Slidebean is a standalone, dedicated pitch deck builder that comes with an assortment of sales pitch templates and a straightforward enough process for creating your own custom deck. This app stands out from the crowd with its suite of services aimed at helping business founders finance their ventures. Apart from enabling you to auto-generate a pitch deck, Slidebean also lets you put together a business model, create a company profile, organize your financials, and keep track of investors.

How to build a pitch deck with Slidebean

To auto-generate a pitch deck with Slidebean, you’ll have to use the app’s AI feature. You have the option of entering your website URL to serve as the basis of the slide deck, or simply describing your business if you don’t have a website. We tried to use the second option, prompting Slidebean with a brief description of our Skylight Deliveries business:

Here is the output we got from Slidebean:

Considering the brevity of the prompt (which is limited to just 600 characters) the output was satisfactory and could easily serve as a decent starting point for making a professional pitch deck. Based on the little information we were able to provide, Slidebean created a very solid presentation structure. The first few slides introduced the problem and solution at the core of our business offering, before diving into the features, benefits, and the nitty-gritty of operations and finances. The slide layouts were elegant and made the content easy to digest:

Unsurprisingly, Slidebean left lots of details blank for us to fill in. This wouldn’t have been an issue if our prompt could be longer or if we could provide more information by uploading a document:

The slides lacked relevant graphics, too. For instance, there wasn’t a single image of a drone in the pitch deck, despite the fact that our fictional business specialized in drone deliveries.

Slidebean pros

  • Auto-generated presentations make for a good foundation when building a pitch deck
  • Free version gives access to the AI slide making function
  • Clean, professional slide layouts
  • Suite of premium tools for business planning, modeling, finances, and investor tracking

Slidebean cons

  • No option to upload a document
  • Context window limited to 600 characters
  • Graphics not always relevant to slide content

Slidebean pricing

Slidebean has three pricing options. The free plan enables you to create — but not export or share — AI-powered pitch decks. It also gives you access to a few templates and manual slide-creation features. Meanwhile, the $12/month All Access plan allows you to use all AI pitch deck creation, export, and sharing features, and includes a catalog of templates and a presentation view tracking function. Finally, the Accelerate plan costs $99 per month and includes the services of Slidebean’s pitch deck writing and financial modeling teams.

Best way to to create a pitch deck with AI

AI can help you with many aspects of pitch deck creation. You can lean on AI to craft engaging slides, take the tedium of formatting off your shoulders, or even help you with an outline.

But if you want your pitch deck to do its job and get funding for your venture, the slide content should be based not on some cursory prompt. Instead, the foundation of your pitch deck should be a thoroughly brainstormed, well-structured document that outlines your company’s unique value proposition in a compelling way. This document should also contain essential information, such as a market overview, your company’s financials, the amount of money you’re trying to source, how this money will get used, and what the investors should expect in return. It’s your job to put together such a document without relying on AI too much.

Once all the requisite information is compiled in a document, the best way to make your pitch deck is to feed this document to the AI slide maker. You can do this by entering a detailed prompt asking for a pitch deck that’s based on the information you’ve put together. Then, you can copy-paste the content of your document into the prompt window and let the slide maker do what it does best — process the information and convert it into a powerful, engaging presentation that can sway your audience.

Unfortunately, few AI pitch deck makers out there have the capacity to process a prompt long enough to convey all the details needed to make an info-rich deck. And that’s part of the reason PlusAI took the first spot in our lineup. With PlusAI, you can copy-paste large chunks of text (up to about 20,000 words) into Plus AI’s prompt window and get a high-quality, AI-generated pitch deck in the output. It also takes mere minutes to upload a document in almost any conceivable file format and get the same result.

FAQs about AI pitch deck generators

Below, we answer a few common questions about AI-powered pitch deck generators.

Can ChatGPT create a pitch deck?

No, ChatGPT can’t generate a pitch deck. ChatGPT is a generative AI tool that’s capable of holding a conversation, auto-producing written content, and analyzing data. That said, it has no capacity to produce a presentation. If you’d like to leverage the power of AI to make a pitch deck, try one of the dedicated AI-based slide makers, like Plus AI.

Can AI help me write a pitch deck?

AI can help you with many aspects of creating a pitch deck, but automating the process entirely will likely not yield the results you want. For example, AI can help you produce a professional pitch deck with elegant themes, clear formatting, compelling content, and captivating graphics. But to get such a quality output, you have to prompt the AI with as much detail as possible. This entails putting together your business model, a compelling unique value proposition, and other information the AI will need to create an informative and persuasive presentation. Once all this data is in a document, you can upload the file to an AI presentation program like Plus AI, and expect a quality pitch deck in the output.

In contrast, simply telling an AI-based slide creation app to generate a pitch deck from a 3-sentence prompt will leave lots of gaps in the output. You’ll then spend hours filling these gaps to align the presentation with your expectations, offsetting any time you saved by automating the process.

How to build a winning pitch deck?

To build a winning pitch deck, you need to craft a compelling story with a strong hook, clear solutions, and relatable characters. The story must walk your audience through the problem, your solution, market opportunity, and team members. Your slides should follow a clear structure; for example, problem-solution-market-team-financials. Crucially, you should deliver the presentation with passion and enthusiasm.
